Can you hear the music? Feel the vibe? Welcome to Miami. We took an ordinary, somewhat dreary rooftop pool deck at the Hampton Inn Brickell location in downtown Miami, and made it a lively, memorable, and highly used space. Previously, 4’ tall fencing and vertical bared gates imprisoned the pool, but we shifted the pool barrier to the rooftop’s entry/ exit doors and added electronic locks to comply with pool barrier requirements of the Building Code. This allowed us to open up the space, with lower minimalist railings and more grand steps that lead you to the water. While we admittedly first approached this project, thinking of muted, natural tones to bring a location of calm and relaxation amidst the bustling City, our client encouraged us to pivot- to embrace the urban chaos, to make it special and make it fun! We created a design that is completely of its place and uniquely Miami. Inspired by the bright pinks and blues of the Miami Heat’s Miami Vice jersey, the site’s surrounding colorful artwork, and the distinctive location with Miami’s rich art deco history and South & Central American cultural influences, we conceived a space with flavor and flare- a space you will not see at any other Hampton Inn. Using graphics, color, and high-end materials, this pool deck is a space to enjoy. When you come outside on the 6th level, in the middle of the City, you know you have arrived. Bask in the sun, take a dip in the pool, and smile. Whether you’re here on vacation, for business, or for a special event, you’ve arrived, and you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
